Angelica Root (Angelicae Radix)
Parts used: Roots
Uses: Aromatic, stimulant, carminative. Stimulates appetite, of benefit for bronchitis, anorexia nervosa, bronchial catarrh.
Contra-indications - large doses first stimulate and then paralyze the central nervous system Agrimony Herb (Agrimoniae Herba)
Parts used: Stems
Uses: Mild astringent in stomach and bowels catarrh , cholagogue, stomachic, antiphlogistic.
Used for acute sore throats, chronic catarrh, children's diarrhea, cystitis. Used in liver and gallbladder disorders.
Blackberry Leaves (Rubi Fruticosi Folium)
Parts used: Leaves
Uses: Astringent, Antidiarrheal, Tonic, Diuretic.
Leaves may be used as a gargle, they also have been credited with antidiabetic activity.
Calamus Root (Calami Radix)
Parts used: Root
Uses: Carminative, spasmolytic, stimulate salivary and gastric glands, slight sedative action on central nervous system, best used in flatulent colic, dyspepsia, diaphoretic.
Centaury Herb (Centaurii Herba)
Parts used: Stems
Uses: Stimulates appetite and bile secretion, of benefit in weak digestion. Widely used as a tonic. Has an insignificant antipyretic effect.
Chamomile (Chamomillae Flos)
Parts used: Flowers
Uses: Reduces inflammation, stimulates the appetite, and aids digestion and sleep. Acts as a diuretic and nerve tonic. Helpful for colitis, diverticulosis, fever, headaches, and pain. Good for menstrual cramps. A traditional remedy for stress and anxiety, indigestion, and insomnia. Useful as a mouthwash for minor mouth and gum infections.
Caution: Should not be used daily for long periods of time, as this may lead to ragweed allergy. Should not be used with sedatives or alcohol.
Fennel Fruit (Foeniculi Fructus)
Parts used: Fruits
Uses: Used as an appetite suppressant. Promotes the functioning of the kidneys, liver, and spleen, and also clears the lungs. Relieves abdominal pain, colon disorders, gas, and gastrointestinal tract spasms. Useful for acid stomach. It is possible to use as an eyewash.
Good after chemotherapy and/or radiation treatment for cancer.
Peppermint (Menthae Piperitae Herba)
Parts used: Flowering tops, Stems, Leaves.
Uses: Increases stomach acidity, aiding digestion. Slightly anesthetizes mucous membranes and the gastrointestinal tract. Useful for chills, colic, diarrhea, headache, heart trouble, indigestion, irritable bowel syndrome, nausea, poor appetite, rheumatism, and spasms.
Caution: May interfere with iron absorption. Should not be used by nursing mothers.
St. John´s Wort (Hyperici Herba)
Parts used: Stems
Uses: Good for depression and nerve pain.
Caution: Large amounts can cause heightened sun sensitivity, especially in light-sensitive people. Should not be used by people who take prescription antidepressants or any medication that interacts with MAO inhibitors. Should be used with caution during pregnancy.
